Email Blaster Security Features

Published: 20th October 2020
In this video, we are going to take a look at some of the security features that come with your email blaster account. These take the form of both software features and physical security procedures in terms of how we store your data, which in this instance would be your email lists uploaded into our software.

We never forget that your lists of email addresses contain the private data of in some cases thousands of people, given to you on trust and with the understanding that you will act both legally and responsibly when using that data.

So let’s take a look at how we process and store your lists of email addresses.

UK Based

Here at Email Blaster we are entirely UK based, we have been providing email marketing software for UK and worldwide businesses for 12 years. So, if you are a UK business you have the peace of mind that if you need us or have any queries, then you are welcome to telephone us. You can also contact us via live web chat, support ticket or email - you will always get a timely reply when you need it. You’ll never be waiting for a working day to get an email reply because your software supplier is in a different time zone.

As an established software developer, we employ a small team of account managers - only key nominated staff will have access to your email data. All of our staff have been with us for a minimum of five years and a trusted responsible professionals.

Your data belongs to you, our role is purely to store that data for you and provide a great email marketing platform for you to send out your email campaigns to these people. We don’t work with any third parties and no part of our network is outside of the UK.

We don’t buy or sell email data - this means that your email lists are never traded or passed to other parties. Your data belongs to you and is never exposed to third parties who buy or sell data.

We are always conscious of the fact that you are placing great trust in us when you upload your data. For us, data security and ensuring that we have taken every precaution necessary regarding the secure storage of your data is at the heart of heart we do.

GDPR compliant

In May 2018 GDPR became law in the EU and UK. This law governs how we collect, process and store personal data, which in this instance includes email addresses of your contacts.

Here at Email Blaster, as the supplier of the service GDPR defines us as the data processor - you are the data owner, and we are the processor.

As the processor, we are required to make sure that your data is stored in a secure environment inside the UK. Data needs to be stored inside The UK or E.U in order for it to be protected under GDPR. It’s worth pointing out that if you use an American based supplier - they are under no obligation to follow a UK law such as GDPR. This means that they can really do anything that they want to with your data without any legal recourse under GDPR.

GDPR also states that we as the processor need to appoint a Data Protection Officer. Here at Email Blaster, we have a fulltime DPO, the role of this person is to ensure that all data is stored and processed in accordance with GDPR.

We take GDPR very seriously, the only real change we had to make was to nominate a member of the team to take on the role of DPO. The standards outlined by GDPR have always been a key part of our processes for the last 12 years.

Data Centre

When you upload your data to Emai Blaster, it will be stored on one of our network of servers. These servers live in a data centre, our data centre is in Milton Keynes in Buckinghamshire.

These servers live in an incredibly secure facility, the data centre holds an ISO27001 accreditation and is classified as a tier 4. This is the highest standard attainable.

Entrance to the Data Centre is by nominated email blaster personnel only. Access is controlled by keyfob controlled security doors and security cameras. The servers live in a secure data hall, with each rack of servers being kept inside lockable steel cages.

The data centre has twin power feeds, twin independent power sources and automated failover. This means that is anything that fails in the chain, then processes are automatically switched over to the second network - running in complete parallel.

Our network also sits behind a series of both hardware and software firewalls. We take our role as the data processor very seriously and always endeavour to create the safest environment possible.
Two Factor Authentication with OTP
Logging into your Email Blaster account requires inputting your username and password, all passwords are auto-generated secure passwords that adhere to the safest standards. We also provide the option for users to opt for a two-factor authentication system, this uses an OTP (one-time-password).

Setting up 2FA can be selected via your account settings page. Once set up you’ll need to install the OTP app on a secondary device such as your smartphone. When logging in, the software will as you for a numeric passcode which your smartphone will generate.

This passcode will change frequently, so it is only valid for a short time. 2FA is an incredibly secure way of logging into your account. It offers total peace of mind that your account can only be accessed via an incredibly secure process.

White List IP

One of the newer security features that we’ve introduced is the ability to white list IP addresses, this gives you the ability to only allow logins from nominated IP addresses.

An IP address is the address of your computer, your internet router will generate this address and it is the footprint of your computer when you use the internet.

You can white list as many addresses as you need to - so you could list your office and you home, or the IP addresses of nominated users only.

Having this feature is a great way to add another layer of security, giving you complete peace of mind that your data is protected by multiple layers of security features.

Summary

When using Email Blaster, the security features integrate seamlessly with the experience of using our software. Over the last 12 years, we have developed these in such a way that they offer industry-leading levels of data security without making usage of the software feel inhibited by red tape.
