Optimising your email marketing for mobile devices

Published: 25th March 2019

Custom optimisation for mobile devices

In recent years, mobile devices have overtaken desktop as the first port of call for reading our emails, this really makes life interesting for designing and sending email marketing.

It used to be the case that our internet connection was via the big unsightly box underneath our desks, connected to a 15” screen. So, this made life pretty easy for us email marketers as the device used to view our emails was pretty uniform for all of us.

Over recent years though, the huge array of devices used for viewing emails has increased dramatically. Now that we can all get affordable reliable internet connections when we are out and about, it has meant a huge increase in mobile viewing devices.

These devices can be anything from 3.5 inch screens on phones, to 6 inch over sized smart phones through to tablets of varying sizes.

With this huge variation of viewing devices it makes life pretty hard for us email marketers, how do you make something look great on all devices if we are all using something different to view it on?

cBuilder gives you the tools

Sometimes, what looks great on a large desktop screen, may not translate to a 3.5” screen. So wouldn’t it be great if your email marketing software could optimise your campaign for smaller screens?

Well, cBuilder does exactly that. Your desktop designs will be created inside a fluid framework, this means that they will be automatically resized depending on the device that is being used to read them.

Structure content blocks will be automatically re-arranged to provide the best viewing experience for people using mobiles to view your mailer.

For example, if your mailer has three images in a horizontal row, then these could look too small on a mobile. So, cBuilder will automatically stack these images vertically for people using smaller screens.

But cBuilder doesn’t dictate the arrangements of your layout, any re-ordering of these blocks can be manually overridden if you feel it suits your design.

But it doesn’t stop there though…

Sometimes though, you may want to hide some blocks for mobile. What works for desktop may require a condensed version for mobile.

Large mailers with lots of content often don’t translate to mobile, if we are viewing on our mobile phone, we generally don’t have the time to read lots of text.

With this in mind, cBuilder now gives you the option to ‘hide for mobile’. This means that you can choose which blocks are displayed on mobile, so you could exclude some for example.

This is a great tool to make sure that you email marketing really hits the mark for every device that your viewer uses to view it on.
